TG12 – Tree Rings & Disturbances

TG Leaders: Werner Rammer, Rupert Seidl, Miroslav Svoboda, Volodymyr Trotsiuk

Description: This task group will explore how tree-ring based reconstructions of forest disturbance regimes can be used to improve forest disturbance modeling. We aim at identifying the potential and current limitations of using tree ring data in a disturbance simulation context, and collect good practice examples of such previous applications. In turn, we will also highlight how disturbance models can contribute to improve tree ring-based disturbance reconstructions. Overall we aim at a better understanding between the tree ring and modeling communities, and advocate a joint application of their respective approaches to gain better insights into past forest ecosystem dynamics.
