TG20 – Seed Masting Modelling

Lead: Giorgio Vacchiano

Seed masting is a crucial process in the reproduction and establishment of several important European tree species. Including masting in stand or landscape models may produce more accurate simulations.

This TG will explore current and potential options to make forest models sensitive to masting and its climatic drivers, and assess whether this may improve simulations under current and future climates, using datasets on masting time series at national and EU scale.

Potential outputs include a review paper, a data-free modeling exercise, and data exchange on masting time series to calibrate models.
