Description: Forests undergo dynamics not only at the stand scale, but are also influenced by larger scale drivers, such as landscape management, and by spatial interactions, such as fire spread or seed dispersal. Models taking into account these effects are forest landscape models that run on areas larger than a stand and interact spatially. In the task group, we aim to compare several forest landscape models in order to examine their usefulness for different kinds of applications. Candidate models are up to now LandClim, TreeMig, Landis II and Iland, but others are welcome. Comparisons will be done with respect to the models themselves in terms of general approach, scales, resolution, processes, interactions, drivers, disturbances, outputs, uncertainties, and data requirements. We aim to run the models in different test regions with different research foci, e.g. in southern Italy, western France, the Alps, the Bavarian Forest, and to compare the simulations. For products, we aim for one or several comparison papers, and for enhanced collaboration in sub-projects initiated in this task-Group.
Participation: If you are interested in participating in the task group, please contact the task group coordinator directly. If you are interested in the working group in general, please contact the working group leaders.
