TG9 – Forest management modeling

TG Leader: Marek Fabrika

Description: This task group will focus on forest models that provide solutions to forest management. The topic is tackled in two dimensions: model development and model use. Model development is considered in the frame of adaptive management under climate change. Two key aspects are addressed. The first aspect refers to management duration rotation period and the aim is to provide recommendations for forest developers and scientific community on thinning modelling. Real thinning regimes and modelled alternatives will be compared, analysed, collected and compiled. The second aspect is management over rotation. Here model components for solution of problems in different forest management systems will be defined and reviewed. The output of this work would be a review paper. For models users stays in a Training School in Zvolen will be offered. During courses, users will apply different types of the models and thinning regimes for specific problems of forest practice. The interactive thinning in Computer Aided Virtual Environment (CAVE System) will be trained.

Time: Review paper, April – September 2015; Training School,  May / September 2016 / 2017.

Products: Review paper, Training School and STSM.
